My 12,000LB Camper Doesn't have Wheels and Tires with a 3,000LB Capacity, Is This Normal?

Question:

Hello, I need to replace a two rims on my 12,000 lb GVWR twin axle 5th wheel camper. Shouldn't my rims be at least 3,000lb rated? I am replacing my tires with load rating G because one of my my E rated tires blew out.

What you are describing makes complete sense as you would think a 12,000lb GVWR tandem axle 5th wheel would have two 6,000lb axles so each wheel would have to be able to support 3,000lbs. What you are most likely dealing with is some manufacturers have started adding the trailers tongue weight to the axle capacity to give the final GVWR. If this is the case you likely only have 5,200lb axles and the manufacturer is saying the tongue weight around 1,600lbs is the reason the camper has the 12,000LB GVWR. This would put the required wheel capacity at 2,600lbs per wheel and tire. If you can verify the bolt pattern wheels and tire size you are needing I can give you some recommendations. You can also verify this information by checking the axle tags under your 5th wheel for their capacity.
