How to Wire up a 5th Wheel Trailer so that a Utility Trailer Can be Towed Behind the Trailer
Question:
I have a 2003 5th wheel Forest River, Sandpiper travel trailer that I had a receiver hitch mounted to the rear to pull a small boat or utility trailer. Now I need to wire up the lights to the utility trailer the utility trailer has a 4 prong flat plug. Any suggestions? Thank you

As long as your tow vehicle can handle the additional amperage draw of supporting the additional trailer lights of your second trailer you can certainly add a 4-way to the back ofyour 2003 Forest River 5th Wheel Trailer. You would want to use a Draw Tite Wiring Harness part # 18252 to tap into the wiring harness of your 5th wheel trailer.
You will want to wire by function from the fifth wheel trailer using the included circuit tester from the # 18252 and then use the included quick-splice connectors to tap into the circuits. I attached an install video for this product on a vehicle that will give you the idea of how it would install onto your trailer.
If you need additional wiring you might also be interested in ordering Bonded 4-Wire by the foot part # 16-4B-1.
I also attached an FAQ on trailer wiring for you to check out also.
Lastly, some states do not allow trailers to be towed by another trailer. You will want to check the DOT in your area and everywhere you plan on traveling to in order to determine if you can legally do this.
