Are Leaf Spring Measured When Loaded Or Unloaded?
Question:
Is a 25 1/4 in leaf spring the same as a 26 in spring just loaded vs unloaded?
asked by: Phil
Helpful Expert Reply:
For all of our springs we list the unloaded length measured center eye to center eye straight across. Leaf springs can extend up to 1" when flexed. If you are looking to replace old leaf springs, you will want to jack up the trailer so that the axle is hanging, then take your measurement. Keep in mind that older leaf springs can flatten out over time. So even with the spring unloaded, it may measure slightly longer than the new replacement springs. A 26" spring like the # e22YR is a very common size. We would definitely want to get a measurement from the current spring and match it up as closely as possible.
