Parts Needed and Procedures for Flat Towing 2000 Jeep Wrangler

Question:

Can I use the clevices on a heavy duty bumper to flat tow a 2000 jeep wrangler? If so, what kind of tow bar would be best?

Clevis rings are meant for recovering the vehicle when it is stuck, not for flat towing the vehicle. The safest way to flat tow the vehicle is by using a base plate kit that attaches to the frame of the vehicle.

For the OEM double-tube bumper, I recommend the Roadmaster EZ4 # RM-521424-4 base plate kit. For the U-channel bumper or single-tube bumper, use # 1420-1. The Tow Ready tow bar you referenced would limit you 45 mph, so something like the Roadmaster Tracker, part # RM-020 would be a better choice. For a tow bar with adjustable arms that would make hooking up the vehicle much easier, the Falcon 2, part # RM-520 would be the way to go.

You would also need additional accessories like safety cables, part # RM-643, a lighting solution such as part # HM56202 with relay # RM-88400, and a supplemental braking system like # BLU37TR.

According to my research, your Jeep is capable of being flat towed without modification, but I strongly urge you to confirm this for yourself by checking your owners manual or by checking with Jeep.

I have linked you to several informational articles about flat towing that you might find helpful.
