If you have the factory tow package you will find four (possibly five) blunt cut wires under the left side of the instrument panel to the left of the steering column. You should test each of the wires by function using a circuit tester like part # PTW2992 since manufacturers can change wire color at any time.
I spoke with my contact at Cequent and they told me what the wires would be like on your Acadia and how the brake controller should be wired. The red/black wire on the vehicle will attach to the black wire on the brake controller. This is the 12V power from the battery. The white wire on the Acadia connects to the red wire on the brake controller and is the brake light signal. The dark blue wire should be connected to the blue wire on the brake controller. This is the brake output wire to the trailer. The black wire on the Acadia should be spliced to the white wire on the brake controller and is the ground. The gray wire is not used.
If you need a 7-way trailer connector installed on your vehicle as well, then I recommend installing the 4-Pole and 7-Pole Installation Kit, # ETBC7. This kit includes everything you will need to install a 7-way trailer connector and brake controller in your tow vehicle. I have attached an installation video for this kit for you. You must already have a 4-way flat trailer connector installed on your tow vehicle to use this kit. If you do not already have a 4-way flat trailer connector, I recommend the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, part # 118451. I have attached an installation video for this connector on a 2009 Acadia.
