Troubleshooting Low Power Output for Predator DX2 Brake Controller

Question:

I purchased the Predator DX2 brake controller about 5 years ago and never had any problems. What started happening is the brake controller will never go beyond 3.2 on screen and it us to be higher when brakes were applied aggressively, so i pulled lever toward rear which is more aggressive braking and the controllers screen stayed at 3.2 on screen. I then used manual slide and brakes would not pass the 3.2 either. It feels like there is minimal brake being applied with the manual slide full on, I feel something not much being applied. Need advice? Shoes are adjusted, pads are Dexter self adjusting 12x 2inch

It sounds like you've done a good amount of troubleshooting already which gives us a good foundation to work off of.

Since your Dexter Predator DX2 Trailer Brake Controller # 58-8 isn't supplying more than 3.2 for power this tells me that 1 of 2 things is going on; either there isn't enough power getting to the controller and is limiting it, or something is internally wrong with the controller.

Start off by checking the wires connected to the controller first. The white should have a good solid ground connection, the black should have constant 12V power, the red gets power only when the brake pedal is pressed, and the blue is your output to your trailer brakes. If you see something weird with the power then you'll need to trace the wiring as best you can and replace any damaged parts.

If you fix your wiring or you didn't see any problems with it from the start then that means the controller is internally messed up and you need to get it replaced under warranty since it has a 7-year warranty and you've only had it for 5 years.
