Can The Phoenix Electric Trailer Jack Be Wired To The 7-Way Instead Of The Battery
Question:
Could you power this jack through a 7 way plug? I have a 2019 Ford F150. I have heard there is a problem trying to power a Jack with 7 way on this model. Have you any heard this? Thanks

You could power the Phoenix Electric Trailer Jack # UF38-944040 by wiring it to the 12v accessory wire of the 7-way in your junction box, like part # 38656, instead of wiring it directly to the battery. There are pros and cons to this though. The pros being that the wiring is a bit more tucked away and less likely to corrode on terminal in the junction box versus sitting outside with the battery (if you don't have a cover). You'll also never have to worry about a dead battery since you'll be powering the jack directly from the tow vehicle's 7-way.
The cons would be that you're sharing this power with anything else wired to the 12v accessory wire so you run into the potential that you could draw too much and blow a fuse if you have other things running at the same time. You're also limited by the length of your 7-way cable and wouldn't be able to move the jack without having a vehicle with a 7-way and being close enough to the trailer for it to plug in and operate.
My personal preference is to wire it to the battery and just keep the battery charged, but there's nothing wrong with connecting to the 7-way.
