Recommended Weight Distribution System for a Minivan Pulling a Pop Up Camper
Question:
Hello, I have a 2006 toyota sienna. We tow a 2100 lb pop up camper. We have a curt hitch and air lifts from you all and the set up is pretty solid. But, I am considering a weight distrubution hitch. My issue though is ground clearance of the mechanism. Even now with air-lifts and new coil springs we still have to be careful with our hitch regarding ground clearance. Do you have any experience with my van type and WDH? Thanks

I took a look online, the Curt Trailer Hitch item # C13105 you have on your Sienna is rated to be used with a weight distribution system. The best one for your 2,100 lbs pop up camper is going to be the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System item # EQ37040ET. This system works with trailers that have up to a 400 lbs tongue weight.
The Equal-i-zer system includes a 2" shank that can be inverted and used in the rise position. This will help to address your ground clearance concerns with using a weight distribution system. What also helps is this systems' bars connect to the side of the head assembly, rather than up into the bottom like round-bar systems. This has the bars sitting right below your trailer's tongue.
The Equal-i-zer item # EQ37040ET system has built in sway control that will keep your camper inline when you are going down the highway. The steel-on-steel friction helps to minimize sway caused by winds or sudden maneuvers.
I have attached a diagram below that will show you both positions this shank can be used in. The shank will look like an L for your set up.
I have linked a couple of installation and review videos below that will show you how to get this system set up.
