Recommended Locking Pin for a Thule Trailway 2 Bike Rack

Question:

I have a Thule Trailway 2 bike rack, and want to get a lock to put on the hitch. I know Thule makes a lock for this, but I dont really want to spend $70.00. Is there a lock you carry that will do the same for less money?

Expert Reply:

I sympathize with your situation but the bike carriers use thread-specific hitch pins. They do this intentionally so you have to pay a premium price for their products. Other manufacturer locking hitch pins will not fit the Thule Trailway 2 bike rack. You are going to have to use the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device item # THSTL2.

The only other option which isn't really a good solution is to drill out the threads on the bike rack and use a standard locking pin like the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitch item # e98882 or item # e98879 for a 1-1/4" receiver. That suggestion should be a last resort because you will void any warranty that came with your bike rack.
