How To Install Solar on a Class A Motorhome and Wire to Inverter

Question:

i have a 2002 Coachman Class A motorhome. it currently has a 30amp shore power service with an Onan generator. i want to add solar to be able to power the 120v service and charge the aux solar battery. what inverter do i need to use and how do i tie it into the current coach inverter? can i still use the stock power panel and inverter? maybe a transfer switch? not sure what all i need.

The solar panel and subsequent charge controller aren't connected to the inverter directly nor is one required. However, if you already have one there would be no compatibility issues with the solar panel or charge controller. I have attached for you below a photo to better visualize this as well as a help article which walks you though the install more in-depth.

In order to see how much solar you need, you'll need to run some numbers. In addition to the install help article I have attached below, there is also an article that goes over how to determine how much solar you need. I suggest reviewing this next. The Go Power Solar AE-4 All Electric System with MPPT Solar Controller part # 342-75010 might be an option for you. This is a pretty healthy setup of solar power providing up to 760 watts. I have attached a list with other options as well if this is too much or not enough.

Unfortunately, I can't really make any specific recommendations yet as I don't know what you need but there is a lot of info for you here to review so you can better understand what you're getting into and what is required of you to help me help you choose the right system.
