5TH Wheel To Gooseneck Pin Box For a 2015 Forest River XLR Thunderbolt 340X12HP Toy Hauler  

Question:

I have a 2015 Forest River XLR Thunderbolt 340X12HP. Im having issues finding which Lippert Pin Box is on it. With that being said Im looking at the GEN Y Gooseneck or the Reese Goose Box. The camper is 13,500 dry weight and 16,640 GVWR. Would I need the 16k or 20k rated box?

Your 2015 Forest River XLR Thunderbolt 340X12HP is going to have a 1621 pin box bolt pattern. This will use either the Gen-Y Hitch 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY58GR or the Reese Goose Box # RP85FR. These will each require their own safety chains. The Gen-Y will use the Safety Chains # GY49GR while the Goose Box will use the Safety Chains # RP49151. The chains are not cross compatible so you will need to stick with the same brand.

Personally I feel the Reese Goose Box is the better option as it uses an air spring inside the adapter which will allow you to adjust the ride quality. It is also the only adapter which does not void the Lippert frame warranty.
