Video Transcript for Gen-Y 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box 2 Hook Safety Chain Review

Hi everyone, Aidan here with etrailer. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at and showing you how to install these safety chains for your Gen-Y gooseneck. This is gonna be a 3/8 inch diameter chain and it's going to be 84 inches long. It's gonna be one section of chain with two clevis hook ends, and it's designed to work with your Gen-Y gooseneck, because the chain just feeds through the cross-shaped holes that are already existing on your pin box here, and there's no need to break out the torque wrench. It's got a 26,000 pound weight capacity and it's going to be a Grade 70 chain. Just like any other safety chain out there, it's gonna be that backup connection between your trailer and your vehicle in case there is an emergency disconnect, you still have this holding it in place.

And like I said earlier, the install process is really easy, there's no need to bolt anything down, break up the torque wrench, it's really just feeding that chain through the pin box, so let's check it out. To start with the install, we're gonna take off one of the clevis hook ends for our safety chains just by grabbing some needle-nose pliers and straightening out this pin right here, so we can take it out. May need to grab your pliers for that too just to get a better grip. And remove the clevis hook, and we can feed that free end of the chain through the gooseneck where we have this cross-shaped hole. So I'm just gonna feed it through this end right here and out the other side, and then we can get it all symmetrical.

So from here, I'm gonna get these nice and even with each other, just pulling the slack out of one side, adding it to the other until everything is draping evenly. Then, once everything's even, we can just grab our hook and our pins, run them back through each other and re-secure the hook by bending the cotter pin back out and securing the hook in place. And that's it for the install, it's a really simple process, and now, we've got our upgraded safety chains on our Gen-Y gooseneck..

The quality of this safety chain is great, and is compatible with the Gen Y goose neck hitch that I'll be installing on my travel trailer. The hooks are very large and will easily attach to and detach from the hook loops in the bed of my truck. I have no complaints, and appreciate the quick processing and shipment from etrailer.

After using my Genyhitch executive hitch for only one season, I liked it well enough to buy a second one , we decided to downsize our 5th wheel camper, and of course the new one has a different pin box, so it won’t fit, so I have one that fits a Rhino pin box , if anyone is interested, lol. It’s so nice when you unhook all you have in your box is the ball. Quality product!

by:

Shipping on this item was quick and packaged extremely well. The GenY hitch exceeded our expectations. We just completed a 600 mile trip. In the first 100 miles we noticed some stiffness, but after that it loosened up and on the return home we definitely noticed a difference. The hitch is very easy to hook up and as long as you are within a few inches the hitch will center itself and slide onto the ball. We towed with an F350 6 3/4 foot bed and I do not see any need for the 4 inch extension ball setup. A subcompact tractor makes 1 person install of the hitch a complete breeze. The angle is perfect. I ordered the GenY chains and mounting bolts and all worked very well.

by:

This is the 3 rd Gen-y hitch we’ve ordered. We love the hitch and appreciate ETrailers expert knowledge and the time they take to make sure the order is exactly what we need.
They even do a follow up email to let us know it’s been delivered!
Thank you Lauren!

Super easy install. Straighten cotter pin, pull it out, pull pin and hook is removed. Feed chain through, put hook and pin back on and bend cotter. Literally a 5 minute job! Grade 70 chain and about the same as sourcing elsewhere.

by:

Additional photos. I also had to use the top bolt holes to maintain the bed rail clearance.

by:

Does the job it was intended for

by:

Appears to be as capable as advertised, but of course it's not one of those things you want to have to use. It's easy to add to the hitch as well, with a couple of Pliers to get the pin out on one hook.

by:

What can you say it’s a chain!

by:

Works great and was easy to install.

by:

Good solid chain, no rust or concerns. just a little heavy.

by:

Direct fit for the gen y hitch. Looks great

by:

It came 2-3 days after ordering it as they said. Boxed up nicely. so fat I’m happy. Haven’t installed it yet because the camper is still in storage.

by:

Awesome communication and delivery of products when anticipated

by:

Very professional. Order shipped quickly and product looks like it is very good quality.

by:

Great product. Great quality.

by:

The product is as advertised. Very good quality and the shipping was on point, it even arrived a day earlier.

  • Finding Pin Box To Gooseneck Hitch Adapter For a 2010 Keystone Cougar 326MKS
To give you the correct selection to choose from I have to know what pin box you have on your 2010 Keystone Cougar 326MKS. This is needed as not every RV is going to always have the same components even if they were built the same day in the same factory. I do know the 1621 was the most commonly used around this time so if you can either provide me with the Lippert tag information on the mounting arms above your pin box I can verify the bolt pattern for the pin box. Otherwise I would need...

  • Will The Gen-Y 5TH Wheel To Gooseneck Pin Box Work On Flatbed With Recessed Hitch Ball?
Yes, you can use the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel-Gooseneck Pin Box # GY36FR with your 2011 Ram 3500 and CM flatbed with recessed gooseneck ball. You will need the Safety Chain # GY49GR since you are switching to a ball connection and safety chains are required on trailers using a ball connection. I recommend using the Bolt Kit # GY86FR to install the pin box. This will ensure you do not reuse damaged or weakened hardware from your current pin box.

The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY48GR is a great option to help reduce the chucking and jarring. Since the turning point pin box offers no shock absorption at all, this will be a very nice upgrade.
