Are the Rubber Adjusters # PW99 Needed for 265/70R17 Tires on a 2003 Ford Expedition
Question:
Is the PWH2828SC chain set the correct chain set for my 2003 Ford Expedition with 265/70R17 tires? I looked at the videos for this size tire on several brands of trucks and I am confused about whether the additional rubber chain adjusters are needed or not. Initially, I thought that the cam adjusters on the chains would provide sufficient tension and a good fit for the chains. After seeing the additional rubber chain adjusters used in the videos I am not sure. Could you please clarify what is needed for my 2003 Expedition and tire size?

Helpful Expert Reply:
I do recommend using the Glacier Rubber Adjusters, # PW99, with the Glacier Tire Chains, # PWH2828SC, with size 265/70R17 tires. We tested these tire chains on that tire size and determined the cam tighteners did not provide enough tension by themselves.
I found an owners manual for your 2003 Ford Expedition and it says Ford only recommends using cable style chains or Ford accessory tire chains on your Expedition. For cable style snow chains, I recommend going with the Titan Cable Chains, # TC2028. These chains would also require a rubber adjuster, part # TCOA2 or # TCMA2. I recommend reviewing the snow tires and chains section in your owners manual to confirm tire chain use information for your Expedition.
