Troubleshooting 2017 Keystone Bullet Trailer Brakes Getting Hot While Driving
Question:
Hi The brakes on 3 wheels on my 2017 Keystone trailer 10X2-1/4 36-19 are getting hot while traveling. Can these brakes be adjusted? Also I noticed none of the 4 wheels have plugs on the slots, I am pretty sure they werent all lost so they were probably missing since purchased the trailer. Do I need to plug these slots? Than-you much

While it is normal for trailer brakes to get hot from braking if yours are getting excessively hot and only on 3 of the 4 assemblies they are likely too tight and creating friction while driving. You can adjust the Brakes # 23-26-27 that you have on your 2017 Keystone Bullet by using a Brake Adjustment Spoon # W80630 to turn the Adjuster # BP10-060. I have linked an article below that will walk you through the steps of adjusting your brake assemblies.
I do recommend keeping the Plugs # BP10-220 in the holes to keep debris out of your brakes and causing issues. Since yours are missing you should remove your wheels and hubs to check the brakes before adjustment to ensure that there is not something inside the hub that is causing an issue with your brakes. If you see that your shoes are worn I recommend upgrading to the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit # 23-468-469. These brake assemblies are self adjusting so you will not have to adjust the brakes manually and you will have a better more consistent brake feel as the shoes wear over time.
