Replacement Coupler For An Atwood Surge Coupler

Question:

Hi I have a 2003 Tennessee boat trailer with the Attwood surge coupler. I’m not sure what the bolt circled in the attached pic does exactly. Is it supposed to be in the position shown while towing? Thanks for any help you can provide

The circled item in the picture is where when towing the bolt will push into the actuator to apply pressure onto your actuator.

Since Atwood is no longer in business it is very hard to find replacement parts for it. I would recommend switching to The Demco Hydraulic Brake Actuator # DM72VR.

This hydraulic actuator will activate the trailer's brakes when the tow vehicle slows or stops. It has an EZ-Latch coupler mechanism which gives you a simple, secure hookup and disconnect. This coupler will work with trailers that have hydraulic drum brakes.

The coupler has a gross towing weight up to 7,000 pounds and a maximum tongue weight up to 700 pounds. It needs to be mounted on a straight 3 inch wide trailer tongue.

I attached a review video link below.
