Replacement 10 Electric Brakes for 2010 Rockwood Roo M17 and Brake Controller Recommendations

Question:

Hi, I have a 2006 GMC Savana 1500 conversion van with factory hitch and 7 pin round plug. I purchased a 2010 Rockwood Roo M17 travel trailer with 3852 GVWR and single axle. I would like to connect electronic brake controller in the front driver compartment. There are electric wires coming out of the back of the trailer drums. Is this drum considered hydraulic with electric actuator? The stamp on the passenger side drum surface is AL-KO 8500 also see 078-09 stamped in ink. On the brake shoe is stamped 6016 and 09-08A... see pics. What us the correct replacement shoe model? Also took pics of a harness under driver side dash. Is this the electric brake connector harness? If not, where is it and what does it look like? Which model brake controller will fit and is there a wire harness adapter that plugs from the controller to the factory harness? Thanks

Thank you for all of the details and photos!

The brakes on your trailer are electric brakes. That oval piece towards the bottom is the brake magnet and is what ultimately controls the brake action. It's actually more cost-effective to replace the entire brake assemblies so I recommend using the 10" Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-35-SA which updates everything with your brakes. Since your wiring connections are outside you'll want to use protective butt connectors # DW05745-10 which have a heat shrink wrap on them.

For a brake controller I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 # 90885. Since you have the 7-Way on your 2006 GMC Savana Van you should have a wire already ran under your dash that will take the brake controller power back to your 7-Way but I'm not seeing there should be any OEM connector you can connect to - it looks like everything is blunt cut wires. Please note you may need to make some connections under your hood so if that's the case we have the Wring Kit # 5506 that comes in handy.

I wasn't able to find anything about what the wring will look like for you to connect to but typically it will be a taped bundle that may or may not be labeled so you'll have to keep your eyes peeled.

Attached are review videos for you to check out.
