Replacement Bearing and Seal Kit with Grease for a Malone MicroSport Trailer
Question:
I have used my brand new Malone Microsport trailer 7 times to transport a pair of kayaks and noticed today that there is grease on the inside of one of the wheels. I have no previous experience with trailers. Is it normal for a seal to go bad this fast? I’ve never greased them so I know I didn‘t over grease them. I just want to fix this as quickly as possible and to add grease on my own as easily as possibly. What should I do? Just replace a faulty seal? There is a zerk on the inside of the wheel but should I add a Buddy to each wheel? I’ll buy the proper parts from you but just want to do it the best way so I dont have this problem every year. Thanks for any help you can give me.

No, it is not normal for seals to go bad that quickly. Typically if your hubs are spraying/leaking grease, it is because of a bad seal. From what I could find, it looks like your Malone Microsport trailer has a 1.98 inch diameter hub. The correct replacement seal would be the Double Lip Grease Seal # 34823. I would recommend replacing the bearings and seals on both sides using the Bearing Kit # BK1-100.
To grease the wheels you can use LubriMatic LMX Industrial Strength Grease # L11390 with a grease gun like the Heavy Duty Grease Gun # PTW54290.
While adding bearing buddies isn't really necessary unless you are submerging the trailer wheel, they will add another layer of protection. If you wanted to add bearing buddies, you can use the Bearing Buddy Bearing Protectors # BB1980A-SS.
