25-1/4 Inch or 26 Inch 4,000 lb Double-Eye Spring For Trailer With 25-1/2 Inch Eye Spacing
Question:
Purchased 7x15 3500 lb single axle.enclosed trailer. Can see witness marks of over slung axle hitting frame. Installed sumo springs and needed to install with no spacer and still ened up with about 1 inch compression and thats not even at gvw. Maybe 2750 or so. Free clearance axle to frame isaybe 2 to 2.5 in and maybe 1.5 in at part load with sumos under 1 inch preload. Eyelet spacing is 25.5 inches free and 26 at part load. I measure about 2 inches of height from top of spring to centerline between eyelets. I would like to use the 26 in 2000 lb springs 4k for axle set you have because they are 4 inches from spring top to eyelet center per spec so i think this would pute in a better clearance place and let me set sumos with proper preload too. Also axle is dexter 3500 lb but its 3 in diameter so I think it could handle the 4000 lb total capacity. The trailer is 7x12 enclosed with 6 inch frame and its doubled at axle so its plenty stout. Should I use that taller 4 inch tall 26 inch long 4k spring or go with a 25 ¼ with 1 inch less rise? I really dont want to swap to under mount and raise the trailer that much so looking for best option for.more clearance.

Good question, and what happens is that leaf springs elongate over time, and since you mentioned you got measurements of 25-1/2 inches from center eye to center eye and 26 inches under partial load, the best option for leaf springs really is the 25-1/4 inch spring:
- 3-Leaf Double-Eye Spring for 4,000-lb Trailer Axles - 25-1/4" Long # e57SR
If you go with the longer spring, it won't allow for much travel or rebound, and the ride would be exceptionally stiff.
