Recommended Brake Controller And Back Up Camera For A 1997 GMC K3500

I would like to get a brake controller and back up camera installed on my My 1997 k3500.

To install a brake controller on your 1997 GMC K3500 you'll first need to install a 4-way wiring harness. If you don't already have one then I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118315. From there you can install a 7-way with the # ETBC7 to transfer your brake signal to your trailer.
Once you have your wiring all in place you can then install a brake controller. I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller - Proportional # RED24FR. I have one in my Silverado and love how little room it takes up and how easy it is to use.
The Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers # RED69FR will also be needed to wire the Tow-Pro Liberty in. The Black wire will need to go to the battery with an in-line fuse # 331-CBK30-EB, the red will go to your brake light switch wire, the blue will go to your brake controller, and the white can be grounded to the chassis.
This brake controller has a few different mounting options if you don't want to just drill a hole through the dash for it to sit in:

For the back up camera I recommend the Rear View Safety G-Series Backup Camera System # RVS-776718-D. This system will replace your current rear view mirror and allow you to see while backing up without a bulky monitor.
