Can Weight Distribution be Used with a 2005 Honda Pilot
Question:
I have a 2005 Honda Pilot 4wd towing a 2013 Forest River T12RBST. I have not done accurate hitch weights yet but Mfr claims 1955 Dry, 3300 GVWR and 286 Hitch weight. With dual Propane and items in the front storage I figure at least 350 Hitch weight, and another 2-300 lbs in/ on the rear of the TV. My issue once I have accurate weights is whether the trailer tongue will work with the bar lengths or if I have to move propane brackets, etc. How do I measure/ estimate where the lift brackets will be for either the short or long Curt trunnion hitches ? The description mentions the short bars as 28.5inch ? but how long are the regular bars ?

Before you do anything else, consult the vehicle owners manual and/or Honda to determine if weight distribution can even be used on your 2005 Honda Pilot. On many Honda vehicles, weight distribution cannot be used because of the uni-body construction of the vehicle.
If it can be used then to determine where the brackets will be on the trailer you will measure from the center of the cavity in the coupler where the ball goes, back along the frame rail 28 inches. This is where the center of the brackets will be on the trailer frame. You need about 6 inches (3 inches forward and backward of that center point) for the brackets to fit. If there is not enough space you can use chain hangers # RP58305 that bolt to the sides of the frame. Regular bars are around 30 inches or so long.
When choosing a system you will need to know the total tongue weight. That is the tongue weight of the trailer when loaded and ready to tow plus the weight pf anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle. If that figure ends up being below 600 pounds then system # C17330 will work.
You will need to add a ball. For a 2 inch ball use # A-90. For a 2-5/16 inch ball use # 19286. I have included links to our weight distribution FAQ and FAQ on determining tongue weight for you.
