We can get your 2022 Subaru Outback set up with a 7-way so you can use a brake controller to tow your camper, and there are just a few parts you're going to need. First is the 4-flat, which will activate your trailer's lighting functions, and you'll then plug that into a 7-way which has the remaining functions to use a brake controller. So exactly what you'll need for your '22 Outback is the following:
- T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118467
- Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7
The 7-way comes with the # ETBC7, and also gives you the wiring, circuit breakers, and rest of the hardware needed for installation. Then you'll simply need the brake controller and wiring adapter, and for that I recommend an option from Curt:
- Curt Assure Trailer Brake Controller # C49UR
- Universal Wiring Adapter for Curt Trailer Brake Controllers # C51515
I really like the Assure, not only because of the smooth braking it provides, but also because it's really easy to use with its large OLED screen. It also has continual diagnostic checks with safeguards to prevent battery drain or shorts, making it a very reliable controller (in fact, it even has a lifetime warranty).
