Why Can't Class III Hitch Installed on 2015 Mercedes-Benz GLK 350 Use Weight Distibution
Question:
I bought a Draw-Tite class III 2 hitch from you for my 2015 Mercedes GLK 350 suv. I want to tow a 2800 lb camping trailer. The hitch specs say not for use with spring bars. Why? I will need sway control and weight distribution bars for towing the camper. Do you sell a hitch for my Mercedes suv that can use sway bars?

Helpful Expert Reply:
When a hitch isn't rated for weight distribution, it's typically because the vehicle manufacturer has stated that weight distribution shouldn't be used on that particular vehicle. This is commonly seen on unibody-type vehicle where the portion of the vehicle where the hitch attaches might not be strong enough to withstand the forces exerted on the vehicle by a weight distribution system.
This being said, you can still use a sway control system like the Curt # 17200 friction sway control. You'll also need a ball mount bracket, part # RP26003.
