Can Trailer Hitch Lock # e98880 Work Instead of a Pin
Question:
Ball mount # MT70067 requires three pins. One to secure the mount to the tow vehicle and two more to secure the ball mount to the adjustable shank. Is this part suitable for use as a replacement for one of the pins that secure the ball mount to the shank? I ask not only because the load bearing profile is different for the mount to shank pins than it is for the shank to tow vehicle pin the shank to mount pins must address vertical loads as well but also because the ball mount adds an unknown additional thickness to the shank. Is the Locking Trailer Hitch Pin # e98880 suitable for this use?

Expert Reply:
The Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # e98880 that you referenced is rated for a Class III and Class IV, however, my technical contact at the manufacturer does not recommend using this lock in any other application than the intended purpose which is in a trailer receiver. You could instead use the # C23519.
