How to Raise Trailer Hitch Receiver Height on a 2006 Pontiac Montana for a Wheelchair and Scooter
Question:
We have a 06 Montana with a hitch to carry either a 3 wheel scooter or our grandsons electric wheel chair . would this work to raise the platform up higher off the ground ? other sites I have looked at dont recommend it as they say you loose 1/2 the weight limit. Wheel chair weighs around 300lbs. and scooter under 200 Thank-you

The Roadmaster High-Low adapter # RM-076 is designed for use with tow bars only, when flat towing a vehicle behind a motor home. They are not meant for use for any other application.
Some adapters and extenders can reduce the tongue weight capacity of a trailer hitch. Others do not. It depends on the adapter and the trailer hitch Class.
What I recommend is the Curt multipurpose ball mount # D210. This will provide extra height and it will not reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch. The receiver portion has a 350 pound capacity. So on your wheel chair the combined weight of the chair and carrier you use cannot exceed 350 pounds. The same goes for the scooter but because the scooter is so much lighter than the chair it is not likely to be a problem.
If you can lower the weight of the chair at all by stowing parts of it in the vehicle, that would help with the weight.
