Installing Longer Yakima HD Crossbars on an Overhaul Ladder Rack for a SlimShady Awning

Question:

Greetings. I have a 2019 Chevy Colorado with 55 inch HD Crossbars on a Yakima HD Overhaul Adjustable Truck Bed Ladder Rack. When I go surf fishing on the beach, I use a Thule ski board rack and Topwater Rooftop Fishing Rod carrier to carry my fishing rods. Id like to add a 6.5 ft x 6.5 ft slim shady awning to this outfit but I am pretty sure I will need longer cross bars. My truck is 74 inches wide. Will there be any problems besides more drag and wind noise if I get the 68inch cross bars and will there be any problem installing them on the HD Overhaul Ladder Rack? You guys are great! Thank you

For your 2019 Chevy Colorado you could use the the 68" Yakima HD Crossbars item # Y01158 or the 78" Yakima HD Crossbars item # Y01159. Your truck bed being 74" inches wide would only have them sticking out a couple inches on either side. You may want to confirm but our Yakima OverHaul HD Adjustable Truck Bed Ladder Rack item # Y01151-58 for your Colorado comes with 68" Crossbars. If you have 55" crossbars you will definitely want to add longer ones to your setup or you will use up over a foot of the awning before you clear your bedside.

The Yakima SlimShady Awning - Roof Rack Mount - Clamp On - 6-1/2' Long x 6-1/2' Wide item # Y36VR will have no issues working with either size crossbars. We also offer the Yakima SlimShady Awning item # Y96VR in a 8' Long x 8' Wide option. This larger awning would allow you to cover the side of your tailgate as well as extending out an extra 1-1/2'.
