Trailer Brake Controller Recommendation for a 2012 Forest River Class C Motor Home
Question:
I need to purchase a brake controller for a 2012 Forest River Class C motorhome so I can tow an 18 ft car trailer with a Ford Bronco on the trailer. Previously in another truck I had a Prodigy controller which worked well. Whats the best recommendation for a controller for the RV? I will have my mechanic install whatever I purchase.

For your RV I recommend the Tekonsha P2, # 90885. This is the updated version of the Prodigy. It has additional features like the ability to be mounted a full 360 degrees in the direction of travel. And it will also work on electric over hydraulic braking systems. It is a very popular controller because of its reliability and ease of use.
The other items that you will need depends on how the RV is equipped. If it does not already have a trailer connector you will need to add one. Depending on the chassis manufacture on which the RV was built, there may be a plug and play harness available. Otherwise you can hardwire one in using # 119178KIT.
Then you would need a 4 and 7-Way installation kit # ETBC7 to add a 7-Way and the wiring for the brake controller. If the RV already has a 4-Way you would just need ETBC7. And if it already has a 7-Way then you may just need installation kit # 5506.
If you do already have a 7-Way and use 5505 or 5506 then you would need to remove the wire that is in the 7:00 position at the back of the 7-Way and in its place connect a wire from the kit, run it under the vehicle avoiding areas that can damage or burn the wire, up into the cab and to the blue wire of the brake controller.
I have included some links that will help your mechanic with the installation.
