Availability of Hitch That Fits 2002 Toyota 4Runner With 270/70-R17 Spare Tire
Question:
I have a 2002 4Runner with a 270/70/17 spare tire. The OEM tow hitch won’t fit with the spare in place. Do you sell a hitch that would accommodate a spare that size? Thanks.

Expert Reply:
When the manufacturer tests the fit of a hitch like the Draw-Tite # 75091 they do not test for larger spare tires. From what I have found, the # 75091 is about the same as the OEM hitch and leaves very little room for your typical spare tire. That being said, you may be able to use a hitch like the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13087 which uses different mounting holes.
I have attached the written instructions along with some measurements to help you compare and see if this will accommodate your larger spare tire. I would also compare this to the OEM hitch to see what the difference is, if any. Since I do not have access to a 2002 Toyota 4Runner OEM hitch it is difficult to make a true comparison.
