Can the Trunk/Hatch Be Opened with the Saris Bones EX 2 Bike Rack Installed

Can I open empty rack on 2020 Honda HRV?

In regards to using a truck mount bike rack like the Saris Bones EX 2 Bike Rack part # SAR83FR, you will not be able to open the hatch/trunk with the rack attached as you risk damage to the vehicle. The trunk/hatch is not designed to support lifting the weight of the rack and it can shift while in motion causing further damage. That said, this is not just a rule for the Saris Bones but all rear mount bike racks.
If you want to be able to open the hatch/trunk with a rack you'll have to either carry the bikes on the roof with a carrier like the Malone Pilot Roof Mounted Bike Rack part # MPG2103 or a hitch with a rack such as the Thule Hitching post Bike Rack part # TH934XTR.
