Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension for Weekend Warrior Toy Hauler

Question:

Hi I own a 2001 Weekend Warrior FK 2200 toy hauler. I need to learn what would be the best new axel set up for this trailer. How do I determine the ratings, length, and such? What I need to purchase and make sure it has enough ground clearance for off road driving please. Where do I start searching to make sure I do not make any mistakes. How hard would this to be done by a newbie person?

I would be happy to help you. I have a solution for you that does not involve swapping out axles and will give you plenty of clearance for off-road driving. I recommend the Timbren Heavy-Duty Axle-Less Trailer Suspension - 4" Lift Spindle - Off-Road Tires - 3,500 lbs item # ASR35HDS02. These suspension units replace your existing axle and operate independently. They are designed to be used for off-road applications and the 4" Lift provides greater ground clearance.

For compatible hubs you will want to use the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 5,200-lb and 6,000-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 12" - 6 on 5-1/2 item # 8-201-9UC3-EZ.

For your brakes I recommend the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 12" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 6,000 lbs item # 23-105-106.

If you do not want to go the axle-less route, I am going to need some information about the axles you currently have. Your axle should have a tag on it with a serial number. If it doesn't have a tag it'll have it stamped into the side. You will need to know the capacity and length of the axle from the hub face to the hub face to find the proper replacement. You will also need to know your lug pattern for the replacement hubs and decide if you want to upgrade your wheels and tires as well. If you replace your axles you will also want to replace your suspension. You will want to measure the distance between your current hangers and dimensions of your equalizers to find suitable replacements. I have linked a diagram on the axle measurements you will need.

Both of these options are going to be a serious mechanical undertaking. I would not recommend tackling an axle replacement project without help from someone experienced.
