Best Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch for 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500 Short Bed With of Without Puck System
Question:
I'm going to be ordering a 2022 Silverado 2500 with the short bed and I'm researching 5th wheel hitches as the main reason for the purchase of this vehicle is for towing our RV. I'm looking at the various options for this truck and I see that I can get it with or without the OEM puck system. Should I get the puck system for 5th wheel towing or does it even matter? What are my best choices either way?

I will be more than happy to hep you choose a 5th wheel hitch for your 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500 with the short bed!
The 5th wheel hitch that I recommend using is the Demco Hijacker Autoslide which comes in 18K # DM8550034 and 21K # DM8550035 capacities. If your truck has the OEM pucks then you'll need the Rail Adapter # DM6333 to install it, but if you don't have the OEM pucks then you need a standard bed rail kit like the Curt # C16429-204 instead.
I like the Hijacker Autoslide because it automatically moves back when you start to take tighter turns, which means you'll be able to stay inside your truck and take those turns immediately instead of having to get in and out a handful of times to lock and unlock a manual 5th wheel hitch.
When it comes to the OEM puck system I will say that I personally like the puck systems. They look nice and they mean that you will be able to have a clean and clear truck bed when you aren't towing. If you were to go with the standard base rail system then those rails will always be taking up that space in your bed and could make it more difficult for loading and unloading cargo.
I do also recommend thinking about installing an air bag kit like the Firestone Ride-Rite # F2613 because this will give your truck more suspension support when your heavy 5th wheel is hooked up. This won't increase your weight capacity but it will help ensure your truck is level and you have a comfortable towing experience.
