Will The Tuson DirecLink Work In A 2003 Dodge Ram 3500?
Question:
I am interested in purchasing direclink dl-100 to replace my maxbrake controller which is giving me intermittent faults. I have read that dl-100 doesnt communicate properly on some dodge rams. I have a 2003 ram 3500 cummins manual transmission. Can you confirm compatibility? I dont have the luxury of testing one out as I use my truck to tow commercially and cant be without a controller.

I have spoken to Tuson about this issue and there is no way to tell beforehand if the intermittent vehicle OBD network connection will happen, unfortunately. However, as you have a 2003 Ram 3500 and this is listed as being a problem with some Ram trucks from 2005 to 2009 and I have not seen or heard of any issues with trucks before this year span, there should not be any issue with this working for your application. The only thing is that I cannot say that 100% for sure. Which is a huge bummer.
Though it is not what you were looking for, you may want to go with the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This is compatible with basically everything, can handle up to 8 brake assemblies (4 axles), works with electric and electric over hydraulic, and has a lifetime warranty. If your 03 Ram came with the factory 7 Way, it will also plug directly into a port under your dash with the # 3020-P pigtail. This is a more traditional style controller though and will need to be mounted somewhere within arms reach. Definitely not what you were looking for, but it is a good alternative none the less.
