Recommendation For Powering Interior Lights When Parked For Long Periods Of Time

Question:

I have a 10×5 enclosed trailer with 2 interior lights and a switch. The trailer has a 4 pin flat harness.. I want to be able to turn on the interior lights while parked. Is there an adapter or something I can buy to plug it into a standard 110v outlet while parked to run the interior lights?

I do have a way to get your lights working when not plugged into the vehicle, but there isn't a way to convert a 4 Flat into working with a 110v wall socket, unfortunately.

With that being said, what you will need to do is start with adding a battery using something like the Deka Battery Box # DW03188. This does not include the actual battery, but it will give you somewhere to mount it. Odds are this will be able to keep your lights working over night, especially if they are LED, but in order to keep the battery charged, you will need to do a few things.

First, you will need to upgrade your 4 Flat. I always recommend going to a 7 Way for this as it will be the most common style after the 4 Flat. A junction box, like the Spectro # 38656, will make installing the 7 Way # H20043 and # 20099 significantly easier and I highly recommend it. This will also require the vehicle to need a 7 Way upgrade and our # ETBC7L kit includes everything needed for getting power to the trailer.

With the short term covered, the long term solution will be to add the Progressive Dynamics Inteli-Power RV Converter and Battery Charger # PD9160A. This will allow you to connect to a 110 outlet and keep the battery charged and powering your lights when disconnected from the vehicle or parked for extended periods.
