Taillight Removal 2012 Hyundai Tucson to Install Curt T-Connector 4-pole Wiring Harness
Question:
Previously, I asked about removing the tailight assys. on my 2012 Tucson to facilitate install of the Curt wiring harness. I received a speedy response w a pic of a Tucson? and install instructions. Not sure what year the Tucson in your pics is...it is NOT a 2012. 2011-2013 Tucsons are virtually identical. My point is this....My tailights have two screws under the rear hatch as well but are much longer, not as high top to bottom and wrap around the corner of the body. I removed the screws and PULLED!!!!!! and....nothing. I dont want to break it and have to replace it to install a $60 wiring harness. I have orderd the harness and need to get it installed.HELP!!!

After reviewing the notes on your order I see that you now have the correct Curt T-Connector Wiring Harness specifically fit for your 2012 Hyundai Tuscon, # C56348. The Curt T-Connector 55528 that you referenced is considered a fit for Hyundai Tuscons from 2005-2009.
After discussing the difficulties that you are describing with both Curt and fellow experts, it is not uncommon that the taillights of your vehicle are difficult to remove. It sounds like the mounting pegs are very snugly in place in their mounting brackets. I have included a photo showing these pegs.
After you have removed the screws holding the taillight in place I would recommend using something slender and non-metallic, like a popsicle stick, and carefully wedge that under the forward facing edge of the taillight, that wraps around to the front of your vehicle. Then carefully work the taillight side to side, and try to wiggle the light so that you can dislodge the mounting pegs from their brackets. It may take a bit of force to remove the taillight from the mounting pegs. Make sure that you pull the taillight straight out (to the rear of your Tuscon), because it is possible to break the mounting pegs off.
Once you have removed the screws and dislodged the mounting pegs from their brackets you can then remove the taillight, and you can access the assembly to complete the installation of your wiring harness.
I have provided a link the the proper wiring harness for your 2012 Hyundai Tuscon that include the installation instructions for your reference.
