Parts Needed To Flat Tow A 2008 Mini Cooper S Hardtop
Question:
Good morning, Seeing mixed info, so I’m asking the question. We just got a 2008 mini cooper S with manual transmission with the intent of flat towing. It is NOT a convertible. We’re seeing conflicting info on what parts are needed to set it up to flat-tow. Does Blue Ox make a base plate? If not, does another brand? Thank you in-advance!

For your 2008 Mini Cooper S Hardtop, Blue Ox does not offer a kit, however, we do offer the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit # 521877-1; This is an excellent base plate kit and is a confirmed fit by our technicians to your vehicle.
Please note this product will work with Aerodynamic Package, but not with Sport suspension.
Next you will need a set of tow bars, for your base plate I recommend the Roadmaster Sterling # RM-576 which are a direct connect to the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit previously mentioned, making connecting and disconnecting a breeze. These tow bars do come with safety cables which is another required item for flat towing, and is essential for safety while traveling down the road.
Following the tow bar will be a proportional braking system, for your Mini I recommend the Brake Buddy Select 3 # HM39524, this is an ever popular, easy to use, braking system. The Brake Buddy is also a portable system, allowing you to transport the system to different vehicles.
Finally, you will need some wiring; For your 2008 Mini Cooper S we offer the Roadmaster Tail Light Wiring Kit with Bulbs # RM-155, which include all the necessary connectors, and will eliminate any concerns over violating the manufacturers warranty.
