Recommended Hitch And Wiring For A 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid
Question:
I recently purchased a 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and am looking at a small trailer that weighs under 1,000 pounds. I currently have no hitch or wiring and am looking for recommendations. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

We definitely have options available to set up your 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid to tow a trailer. The Curt # C13416 Class III Hitch is a great place to start. This American made hitch is rated up to 4,000 pounds towing and 600 pounds of tongue weight and will definitely handle the small trailer you are looking at. This is a bolt on application with no drilling is required, but if present, the tie down bracket from the bottom of the passenger-side frame rail will need to be removed.
Next you will need some wiring and the Curt Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat # C56434 is highly recommended. This will require a wire run up to the battery for needed power, but other than that it will be completely plug and play and will get all the lights working on your trailer.
The only other things you will need are a ball mount, ball, and pin/clip. The ball mount and ball will depend on your trailer, so these are examples and you will need to measure a few things to make sure you get the correct parts.
The average trailer will sit at about 17" when you measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler and the # C13416 hitch will measure 12" from the ground to the top of the receiver when installed on your RAV4. The Curt Ball Mount # C45070 has 4" of rise and will get you as near to level as needed.
Next you will need a ball. A trailer with the weight you are looking can have either a 2" or 1-7/8" coupler, so this will also need to be verified. If it's a 2" coupler, the Curt 2" Hitch Ball # C40004 will be the correct one. If it is a 1-7/8" coupler, you will need the Curt 1-7/8" Hitch Ball # C40002.
Lastly, the Curt Pin and Clip # C21500 will keep the ball mount secure in the hitch and will complete your towing set up.
