Availability of Trailer Hitch Extension Rated for 10,000lbs for 2017 Ram 2500

Question:

I’m looking for a hitch extender that works while towing my 10Klbs travel trailer because I want to be able to fully extend the tailgate. Are there any products that would work?

There is one hitch extender option that is compatible with the 2-1/2" receiver on your 2017 Ram 2500 and has the 10,000lb weight capacity you were looking for.

The Brophy Hitch Reducer and Extender - 2-1/2" to 2" # HR26 will fit perfectly, will give you 7" of extension, and is rated for 10,000lbs but will require you to use a weight distribution hitch. Also please note that this extension will reduce the capacities of your hitch by 1/3rd so if your trailer hitch is not rated for 1,500lbs tongue weight/15,000lbs trailer weight or more then you will still not be able to tow 10,000lbs.

This extension is rated for 1,000lbs tongue weight so you will need to make sure your trailer does not exceed that. For a compatible weight distribution hitch to get this higher rating I recommend the Blue Ox TrackPro Weight Distribution w/ Sway Control # BLU77FR which works perfectly with this much tongue weight.
