2 inch Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2016 Subaru Forester
Question:
I need a hitch for my 16 Subaru Forrester. I have a rear cargo rack metal tray built for a 1-1/4inch receiver, but I may also be buying a bike rack that could be 1-1/4inch or 2. Im considering getting a 2inch Class III receiver to give me more flexibility to go either way. Is it true that the adapters for a 2inch to 1-1/4inch simply sleeve inside and do not extend further out? As opposed the 1-1/4inch to 2inch adapters which add 4-8inch to the length, reducing the tough weight capacity in the process. Is that right? Anything else I should consider?

Expert Reply:
A 2 inch hitch is definitely the way to go for your 2016 Subaru Forester like with the Draw Tite hitch part # 76182 that is a confirmed fit. This will allow you to use your 1-1/4 inch hitch carrier or bike rack for this size hitch or a 2 inch hitch.
You are also correct that 2 inch to 1-1/4 inch hitch adapters do use sleeve type adapters and not ones that end up extending the hitch out a significant amount like the # HT02.
