Why Does 2012 Nissan Pathfinder Have Trailer Brake Controller Port If It Only Has A 4-way Connector?
Question:
My pathfinder 2012 just has a 4pin connector from factory, i am installing a 7 way connector that plugs into the 4 pin and the remaining 3 wires + ground are manually wired My pathfinder does have the plug for this adapter. Should I wire the blue wire from brake controller directly to the blue wire on aftermarket 7 way rear port? Why would my car even have a port for electric brakes under the dash when it only has a 4 pin connector which doesnt work with electric brakes?

The reason your 2012 Nissan Pathfinder has the trailer brake controller port underneath the dash even though it has a 4-way connector installed is because there is a direct replacement 7-way connector.
The Tekonsha T-On Vehicle Wiring Harness # 118266 plugs in directly to the factory connectors on your Pathfinder and will not require you to run any wires.
To make your universal harness that plugs into the 7-way connector work you will need to run the blue wire from the connector to the where the trailer brake controller will be installed. If using a Tekonsha controller such as the Prodigy P3 # 90195 you can use the Plug In Adapter # 3050-P you were looking at to plug into the factory connector on your vehicle, but you will need to cut the blue wire from the connector off and wire it to the wire you ran instead.
You would then need to run the black wire from the 7-way to the positive terminal of your vehicle battery, and ground the ground wire to the frame. The extra wire is for the reverse light circuit which is typically used if the trailer has reverse lights or uses the vehicle reverse light circuit to power the cameras.
Unless you are dead set on the universal connector you have, I would go with the # 118266 instead as you just plug in a few connectors, then just use the plug in adapter for the controller with no splicing needed.
I included a few videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
