Can Standard Lug Nuts be Used With the Taskmaster TA69VR?

Question:

I have 8k axles that have 1/2-20 studs with this 8 on 6.5 bolt pattern. The existing wheels take conical nuts. With this wheel being flat will it require any special lug nuts?

The Taskmaster Provider 215/75R17.5 Radial Tire w/ 17-1/2" Solid Center Wheel - Offset - 8 on 6-1/2 - LR H # TA69VR is designed to be used with and requires the use of flange nuts instead of the standard conical style lug nuts. Typically an 8,000 pound axle will use 5/8"-18 studs as the 1/2"-20 stud will usually denote a hub/drum that will be used on up to a 7,000 pound axle. With that being said, I recommend upgrading your hub/drum to go with this tire and wheel set-up.

If you have brakes on the axle, you will need the Redline Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 8 on 6-1/2 - Oil Bath # 8-285-10UC3-A. To do this though, you will need to upgrade your brakes as well as this is a larger drum. The etrailer.com Electric Trailer Brake Kit w/ Dust Shields - Self-Adjusting - 12-1/4" # AKEBRK-8 will replace the left and right sides and will also fit the drum, but does have a different bolt pattern than your current brakes. These will use a 4 bolt pattern flange like the # 4-50, pictured below.

If you have idler hubs, the Dexter Trailer Hub - Oil - 8 on 6-1/2 - E-Coat - 5/8" Bolts # 008-399-93 will be a direct replacement as well. However, this does not come with flange nuts so you will also need the # 95188 to complete this set-up.
