Which Weight Capacity do I Need to Follow When Installing a Hitch on My 2017 Nissan Rogue

Question:

I am searching for a solution for carrying two heavy e-bikes on my 2017 Nissan Rogue. Nissan indicates that the tongue weight capacity of my Rogue is 110 lbs. When I search your web site for a trailer hitch for my Rogue, it comes up with a Class 3 hitch with a tongue weight capacity of 525 lbs. If I install the Class 3 hitch on my Rogue, does this increate what I can carry on the Rogue, or do I still need to keep the tongue weight under 110 lbs?

Expert Reply:

If you are planning on installing a hitch that has 525 pounds of maximum tongue weight like the etrailer Hitch Receiver # e98846 on your 2017 Nissan Rogue, you still need to adhere to the lower 110 weight rating of your vehicle. You will need to have you tongue weight under 110 pounds.
