Yellow Light On Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit Still On While Disconnected
Question:
Im wired in correctly, however when not hooked up to a vehicle, with the battery in the breakaway box, the charging light indicator remains on. when I press test I get the green light. I have the 12v / + aux to the black wire, white to ground, blue runs through the breakaway and also goes to the brakes. If you pull the breakaway pin the brakes are activated. 7 pin center not used, trailer side pin 1 = bottom right = white = ground - pin 2 = blue = bottom left = brakes. pin 3 = brown = running light = top right. pin 4 = red = aux/12V = top left. pin 5 = middle right = yellow = left turn. pin 6 = green = middle left = right turn. I dont appear to get braking when tested on the truck. any help appreciated,

I spoke with Hopkins about the yellow light on the Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit part # 20400 staying on while the trailer is disconnected and they stated this was likely due to an on-board battery on the trailer sending power to the breakaway module. In order to prevent this you'd need to install a diode like part # RM-690 inline on the circuit which runs from the main battery to the trailer connector.
If there is no on-board battery on the trailer then the only thing that can be wrong is an issue with the circuit board.
