In order to add electric brakes to a trailer you must first determine the axle capacity which can be found on a tag located in the center of the beam. Assuming the axle has brake mounting flanges (welded to the spindle), you can then add brakes based on the axle capacity such as the Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-2 which is for 2,000 lb axles with the Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # AKHD-545-2-EZ-1K. Then, you'd simply need the Trailer Wiring 7-Way Upgrade Kit part # 277-000141. I have attached our full list of electric brake assemblies and hubs as well.
In regards to install, the assemblies are bolt on so aside from running a few wires everything is pretty straight forward and plenty capable for a do-it-yourselfer.
