Replacement 7-Way/4-Pole Trailer Connector for 2009 Toyota RAV4

Question:

I need to replace the Hopkins 7-way and 4-way connector on my 2009 Toyota RAV4 without a tow package that I installed in 2015 when I installed the brake controller thanks to your great videos. Ive been looking at HM43385, HM11143395 and HM11141920. I will cut off the two vehicle-side connectors and splice the 7 wires. HM43385 is the least expensive. Is there a better choice for the 7-way/4-flat connector?

If you're comfortable doing the wiring, there's no reason why you can't snip off the vehicle side connectors of the Hopkins # HM43385 4-pole/7-way trailer connector to replace your existing 4-pole/7-way.

The wire color codes are as follows:

• Yellow wire-Left Turn/Brake Lamp
• Green wire-Right Turn/Brake Lamp
• Brown wire-Running Lamps
• White wire-Ground
• Purple wire-Reverse Lamps
• Black wire-12-V Auxiliary Feed to Trailer
• Blue wire-Output Voltage From Brake Controller to Trailer

You'll need to ensure that the taillight signals delivered to the # HM43385 have been converted.

Granted, it's a much more expensive solution, but I'd personally choose the # HM40975-11998. This trailer connector is what GM, Ram and Ford use for their OEM trailer connectors so you know the connector is highly durable and reliable. If the 7-way should be damaged in some way, you can replace the connector only using part # HM40975. If you go this route, make note of the wire color code on the linked product description page, as its different that what's noted above.

I've linked to some product description videos that you might find helpful.
