Installing a Trailer Brake Controller in 2007 Winnebago Freightliner Chassis and Factory Harness
Question:
Is there an adapter harness available to connect the Voyager 4 pin connector to the existing 5 pin harness for a 2007 Winnebago on Freigtliner chassis? If not how can I determine which wires to use to connect it. The existing 5 pin connector is as follows. It is a male connector and looks like this looking at the pins. 1. Heavy red wire top left - Hot when ignition is on. 2. Heavy red with white stripe top left. Not Hot with ignition on or peddle depressed. 3. Smaller gage black wire middle left. Not hot with ignition on or peddle depressed. 4. Greenish colored wire middle right. Hot when light switch is on. 5.Smaller gage red with white stripe bottom right. Hot when peddle is depressed.

A brake controller harness is not available for the Freightliner chassis vehicles but I can tell you the functions of the wires. First, lets look at your 5 wires.
The red wire that is hot with the ignition is the 12 volt power wire and it will connect to the black wire on the brake controller. Skipping ahead to thee 4th wire, greenish, this is an illumination circuit and is not used by the brake controller. The 5th wire is input from the brake switch and will attach to the brake controller red wire.
That leaves 2 wires and these are harder to determine. One is output to the trailer brakes, the other is ground. To determine which is on the vehicle harness, you can get a separate battery and apply 12 volts to the brake pin on the 7-Way at the back of the vehicle (5:00 position on a 7-Wayblade style).
Then use a circuit tester like # PTW2979 to test the 2 wires in the cab of the vehicle. The one that shows power is for the trailer brakes and connects to the brake controller blue wire. The other wire is ground and attaches to the brake controller white wire.
