Determining Correct Components To Replace Hydraulic Surge Brakes W/ Electric Brakes
Question:
I am trying to figure out what hub I have but the trailer is 100 miles away. the hub started smoking. I think the surg brakes stuck and heated up the hub and back seal started dripping oil onto hot drum. on a 2000 boat trailer duel axle boat weight is 4200lbs. I see I got brake assembly from you guys Titan Uni-Servo Hydraulic Trailer Brake Assembly - 10inch part T1878800 Grease Seal part 168233 does that give enough info To know what hub and to switch it to electic brakes?

Based on the information of your current hub and drum assembly using Braking Assemblies # T1878800 and Grease Seal # 168233 that tells me that your axle more than likely uses standard 3500lb hub and drum assemblies.
You will need to confirm this by removing one of your hubs and look for the bearing numbers stamped in the face of each bearing as shown in the included picture of the # L44649.
If your bearings are worn to the point that you cannot read the bearing numbers you will need to use digital calipers # PTW80157 to precisely measure your spindles in the locations shown in the included diagram.
Standard 3500lb hubs uses inner bearing # L68149 which has an I.D. of 1.378" and outer bearing # L44649 which has an I.D. of 1.063".
If this matches your current hub and or spindle then for a replacement hub assembly you can use the etrailer Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3,500-lb E-Z Lube Axles - 10" Diameter - 5 on 4-1/2 # AKHD-545-35-EZ-K.
Since you mentioned wanting to switch to electric brakes you would need electric trailer brake assemblies # 23-468-469 you were looking at.
Now to complete the conversion to to electric trailer brakes you will also need to add a 7-way connector and junction box to your trailer using # H20046 and # 38656. You will need to run # 10-1-1 from the junction box to the brake magnets on each braking assembly as well.
Next you will need to add a breakaway switch kit # C52042, and lock out your surge brake actuator. Depending on the specific actuator on your trailer you may be able to install a bolt through it to lock it out, or can have a qualified welder weld it up for you.
Lastly you will need to have a fully functional 7-way connector and trailer brake controller installed in your tow vehicle. If you do not then just let me know the Year/Make/Model of your tow vehicle and I would be happy to make a recommendation for you.
I included a few videos of the products mentioned, and a link to a helpful article on adding electric trailer brakes for you to take a look at.
