Recommended Trailer Axles, Hubs, Wheels and Tires For a Custom Built Seaplane Trailer
Question:
Hello, We are looking to fabricate a four wheels trailer for a seaplane of 3 tons. Could you suggest a list of all items we need for the wheel gear axle, hub, rim 8inch and tire. The purpose of the trailer is to launch the seaplane, we need a smaller wheel diameter, max speed 5 km/h. Thank you. Best regards

Due to the amount of weight you will be carrying of the seaplane I am going to base all my recommendations off a trailer that will be close to 1,000lbs. This would put the total weight of the seaplane(6,000lbs) and trailer at 7,000lbs maximum.
I recommend 2 of the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System w Hubs # A35RD545. This has a 4" drop spindle allowing you to keep the trailer as low as possible for easier launch and retrieval. It already comes with a 5 on 4-1/2" idler hub as if you are only traveling 5km/h you are most likely not looking for trailer brakes. The axle-less allows you to build a custom trailer for your seaplane as you are not restricted to certain length axles. It also incorporates all the suspension components built in so you do not have to worry about separate leaf springs or suspension hangers.
The smallest wheel and tire that is rated for at least 1,750lbs each is the Karrier ST205/75R14 Radial Trailer Tire with 14" Galvanized Wheel # AM32156. The galvanized wheel will best hold up to the salt water you encounter with your sea plane. The tire has a maximum load rating of 1,925lbs. Best of all they come mounted and ready to bolt onto your axles.
