Recommended Hitch For 2018 Ram 2500 6-1/2 Bed W/ B&W Turnoverball Towing 5th Wheel Trailer
Question:
I recently traded trucks and went from a long bed truck to a 2018 Ram 2500 shortbed. My truck does not have the factory puck system. I plan to install a B and W under bed turnover gooseneck hitch. I would like a fifth wheel hitch that utilizes the gooseneck ball. Two that I have looked at are the Anderson hitch and the Reese Goosebox hitch. My pin box dimensions based on your chart tells me I have the Lippert 1621 Pin Box. What hitch system do you recommend for my application?

I would be happy to help!
Since you are planning to install the B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Hitch # BWGNRK1384 in your 2018 Ram 2500 with the 6-1/2' bed I recommend sticking with your current pin box and using the B&W Companion Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch # BWRVK3400-5W. Since your truck has the short bed the best way to get adequate cab to trailer clearance when making sharper turns is a sliding hitch, as this hitch gives you 12" of travel when you need to make a sharp turn.
You could go with the Reese Goose Box # RP85FR to replace your Lippert 1621 Pin Box, and then use the B&W 4" offset ball # BWGNXA4085, but you will not be able to make very sharp turns due to your truck having a short bed. As long as you know the limits of how sharp you can turn, that can be worked around but you will need to go to an empty parking lot with a friend watching the clearance to learn the limits of your setup.
All in all the slider hitch is going to be the safest bet, and the option I recommend.
In addition you will also want to add a 7-way connector to the bed of your truck using the # C56070 so you can connect your trailer.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
