Recommended Hitch, Trailer Wiring, Ball Mount and Trailer Ball for 1998 Dodge Caravan Sport
Question:
Im looking for a hitch for my 1998 Dodge Caravan Sport to occasionally tow yard-equipment trailers like trenchers or loaders, and am unsure about choosing the mount and ball. What hitch, mount, and ball should I use?

I'd recommend going with a Class III hitch which uses the more popular 2 inch receiver opening for the best capacity and the widest selection of hitch mounted accessories. The Draw-Tite # 75119 Class III hitch fits all models of the 1998 Dodge Caravan, so that's what I'd recommend going with. I've confirmed that the hitch IS compatible with the Caravan Sport, unlike the Curt # C13315 you'd looked at.
For towing, you'll also need a trailer wiring harness like # 118334.
When we installed the # 75119, we found that the inside top edge of the receiver tube sat about 12-1/2 inches above the ground. Since the average couple height of a trailer is between 16-19 inches, a ball mount with a 4 inch rise like # D-28 will put you very close to where you need to be height-wise. You'll also need a # PC3 hitch pin and for a trailer ball you'd use # 19260 for a 1-7/8 inch or # 63845 for a 2 inch trailer ball.
I've linked to an install video for the hitch I recommended as well as to a help article that shows exactly how to measure for the correct ball mount height.
