Does Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch DT73RR Require Heat Shield To Be Modified On 2020 Subaru Outback
Question:
Hello, In reading about this hitch there is mention of modification of the heat shield? I would rather not have to do this for failure of warranty. Is this possible to do without? Thanks,

Helpful Expert Reply:
It is not possible to install the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # DT73RR on your 2020 Subaru Outback Wagon without minor modification to the heat shield.
With that said the modification is drilling a 1-3/8" hole in the heat shield to clear the carriage bolt use to install the hitch. Doing so will not void the warranty on your vehicle as you are protected by the Federal Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act. It allows aftermarket parts to be installed without warranty issues unless the install or part caused a problem.
Each of the hitches available for your vehicle will require some modification, but if you would rather just trim a small area of the lower bumper fascia I recommend the etrailer # e25TR or the Curt # C67JR instead.
I included videos showing both of the hitches mentioned being installed for you to take a look at.
