Recommended Replacement Brake Controller for a Factory Brake Controller in a 2012 Ram 1500
Question:
Can I install a aftermarket brake controller on my 2012 ram with a OEM controller that stopped working

You can definitely install an aftermarket brake controller on your 2012 Ram 1500, and the Tekonsha P2 # 90885 is a fantastic option. Working with trailer that have up to 4 axles and can also be used with electric over hydraulic systems, it is very versatile.
As your vehicle is already set up to be used with a brake controller, it makes the installation significantly easier as well. You will need to pair the P2 controller with the Tekonsha Plug-In wiring adapter # 3021-P as this will plug directly into the back of the controller and then directly into a port under your dash. We do not have an install video of a 2012 Ram 1500, but I did include one we did on a 2017. This does use a different wiring adapter, but will install much the same way as your 2012.
